Art sessions and Projects
CHIHOBIRD's art sessions are thoughtfully designed based on my experience as a practicing artist and many years of teaching art.
The sessions are welcoming to people of all experience levels, including those who may not feel confident about making art. But they are designed to offer more than simply an enjoyable experience.
Rather than focusing only on creating a finished artwork, each session encourages careful observation, fresh perspectives, and the joy of experimentation. My goal is to create experiences that inspire participants to see the world around them a little differently.

Example Art Sessions
Objective
Experience the unpredictable nature of watercolor. Rather than trying to control every outcome or rushing to find the "right" answer, participants develop the ability to embrace change, observe patiently, and respond to what unfolds.
Approach
1 hour
Duration

Create random lines using a variety of techniques, then apply generous amounts of watercolor. By observing how the paint naturally flows, spreads, and blends, participants gradually develop the composition while responding to the unexpected.
Objective
Experience the unpredictable nature of watercolor. Rather than trying to control every outcome or rushing to find the "right" answer, participants develop the ability to embrace change, observe patiently, and respond to what unfolds.
Approach
1 hour
Duration
Participants create their own paints, brushes, and other art tools using recycled materials, found objects, plants, and food ingredients. They then use these handmade tools to create artwork, exploring how different materials influence the creative process.

Objective
Working with pre coloured paper allows participants to experiment freely with colour without worrying about muddying paint. By trying colour combinations they might not normally choose and embracing unexpected pairings, they develop greater colour awareness, flexibility, and creative thinking.
Approach
Participants cut colours from painted paper, magazines, and photographs, then combine them to build shapes and compositions. Through selecting, arranging, and rearranging colours, they discover new relationships and visual possibilities.
Duration

CHIHOBIRD’s art projects are built around the theme of Regeneration, developed in collaboration with schools, hospitals, non-profit organizations, and local communities. Each project is thoughtfully designed in response to the people and place involved.
For CHIHOBIRD, Regeneration embraces many meanings. It is about rediscovering curiosity, confidence, and human connection that may have faded from view, while also giving discarded materials and everyday objects a new sense of purpose and value.
Rather than delivering a fixed program, each project is carefully designed around the unique needs, goals, and context of the organization and its participants. Every project is created collaboratively through an ongoing process of listening, observing, and responding.
Through observation, experimentation, and dialogue, CHIHOBIRD uses art as a catalyst for connecting people with one another and with society, valuing the small transformations that grow over time.

Community Collaborative Projects
CHIHOBIRD facilitated an art session as part of Survivor Connect, an event for caregivers organized by Parkway Cancer Centre (PCC).
The program was designed to support caregivers who experience the accumulated physical and emotional tension of daily care. By focusing on tactile, fingertip-based creative processes, participants were invited to slow down, reconnect with their senses, and gently restore both mind and body.
Rather than creating individual artworks, the session centered on collaborative art-making. Through contributing to a shared piece, participants could experience how their individual actions naturally connect with others and become part of something larger than themselves, fostering a renewed sense of belonging and connection.

As part of a year-and-a-half-long project organized by the Singapore Association for Mental Health (SAMH), I designed and facilitated ten different art sessions and trained volunteer facilitators. The project explored themes of well-being, sustainability, mental health, and cultural exchange between Japan and Singapore.
The sessions were held at a variety of locations across Singapore, including Gardens by the Bay and Waseda Shibuya Senior High School in Singapore. Through art, the project created opportunities for SAMH members and local communities to meet, learn from one another, and foster meaningful new connections.
