I believe that there are two types of approach for “educational art”. One is “education through art” and the other is “education of art”. The former is mainly focusing on developing sensibility, promoting rational thought, acquiring the thinking way from various perspectives, and adjusting to a diverse society. Generally we have an ambiguous impression for art , like freedom, self-expression, relaxation and healing effects, hobby, or sometimes it is considered as beyond the understanding or only can be recognized by talented people.
Therefore, with limited curriculum time, it tends to be judged as less important than other major subjects.
However, when you face difficulties in your life, your ability which accumulated from education through art will show great strength. The ability-communicating,problem solving,decision making, cross cultural awareness…Education through art is very important for the foundation of your future.
No matter what kind of job you do in the future, this ability will be a great strength for you.
美術教育について
美術教育を大きく分けると「美術を使った教育」「美術を教育」の2つの方向性があります。前者は主に感性や理性の成長、多角的思考の視点の獲得、多様化する社会への適応力を育てることを目的とし、後者は自己表現をする上で必要な技術や知識、歴史を学ぶ事を主体としています。
目的や対象年齢により、アプローチを変える必要がありますが私は前者の「美術で教育する」に重点を置きつつ、技術もバランスよく伝える教育を目指しています。美術は一般的に、自由、自己表現の手段の一つ、リラックスや癒し効果への期待、余暇の趣味、または、難解、才能ある者のみ可能といった幅広い印象を持たれます。それゆえ学校の限られた学習カリキュラム時間の中では、他の主要教科に比べ、重要度が低いと判断される傾向にあります。
しかし社会や自己との問題に直面した際、対話し思考し、自らの意思でより良い結果を導き出せる柔軟性、物や人への観察力、探究心を持つ人間力を育てる基盤として、美術教育は必要です。将来、美術に関する職につかない場合も、この力は彼らの大きな糧となるでしょう。
